ViCi outlast Chiefs 2-1 in the grand final of WEGL Super Fight Invitational in Busan, South Korea this weekend.
With ~$53,580 prize pool on offer at Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO), four teams were invited to duke it out in a best-of-three, single-elimination format.
The local Korean squad Ardeont Academy displayed a good performance against Chiefs, but the team from down under claimed the series in their favor 2-1, after eliminating the home favorites on the third map convincingly (16-6 Nuke).
ViCi win an international event outside of China
On the other hand, ViCi crushed their European opponent with a swift 2-0, as the Polish side Kinguin failed to deliver against Bin "Savage" Liu's men, who topped the scoreboard with a 1.36 rating.
The grand final kicked off with Tyler "tucks" Reilly and Liam "malta" Schembri leading the charge for the Chiefs, taking out Overpass 16-4 over ViCi easily. The Chinese side managed to tie the series 1-1, due to a strong CT defense on Cobblestone.
ViCi continued to shut down the Aussies in map three, with a 13-2 CT half on Train, but Alistair "aliStair" Johnston's crew held their ground and reversed the scoreline to 14-13 their way, including a 1v2 smoke defuse by tucks to give Chiefs the upper hand.
However, ViCi found a crack in Chiefs' wall of defense to string the final three rounds for a 16-14 scoreline again, and the series 2-1.
